Capturing Black Stories
with every frame.
The Power of Black Stories is a multimedia storytelling project under The Self Publication, where I honor and preserve the lived experiences of Black individuals through portraiture, film, and personal narrative.
What Inspired This
The Self Publication began as a storytelling project I created, resulting in three design volumes that bring together stories from across the Black community throughout the United States. At the center of that work, I photographed 14 individuals for each book, each holding a piece of a larger collective narrative rooted in identity, memory, and lived experience.
With The Power of Black Stories, the work continues to grow as an ongoing archive and creative project. It extends beyond the page to honor not only the stories, but the presence of who we are. This project is about holding space, for truth, for reflection, and for the fullness of Black life across time, place, and generation.
